NEW: Text4baby is a free mobile information service designed to promote healthy birth outcomes and to reduce infant mortality. An educational program of the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition, Text4baby will help women in having safe and healthy pregnancies by empowering them with information they need to give their babies the best possible start in life. Women who sign up for the service by texting BABY to 511411 (or BEBE for Spanish) will receive free SMS text messages each week, timed to their due date or baby’s date of birth. These messages focus on a variety of topics critical to maternal and child health: birth defects prevention, immunization, nutrition, seasonal flu, mental health, oral health, and safe sleep among others. The text messages are free if the parent has one of the providers listed below. Whether or not a woman has a text plan, she can receive the messages for free. If she does have a text plan, text4baby won’t deduct from the monthly allotment she buys with her plan. The providers are: Alltel, Assurance Wireless, AT&T, Boost Mobile, Cellular South, Cellcom, Centennial Cellular, Cincinnati Bell, Metro PCS, N-Telos, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Verizon Wireless, Virgin Mobile USA.
