A Special Invitation to Support the  HANCOCK COUNTY CHILDREN'S COUNCIL

We ask for your financial support to help prevent child abuse. For 1999, the Hancock County Children's Council has renewed our commitment to the community to expand awareness, education and programming to families in need throughout all of Hancock County. Our responsibilities to the community are twofold:
  • To continue reaching new audiences with parenting information to encourage positive parenting.
  • To move communities toward putting their resources into developing programs for supporting new parents.

We know that education is the key to breaking the cycle of abuse. For the past 15 years, we have continued to provide parenting classes to small groups of interested persons looking to improve their skills. We have developed a small resource library of educational materials and training aids for educators and trainers.

We need to do more!

We need to reach parents in a way that is convenient to their busy schedules and convenient for families living in a rural environment. In today's fast-paced, multi-media, environment, there are two new ways to provide the resources for parents to learn appropriate parenting skills. Creating a lending library of audiotapes and videotapes on parenting issues is one new method. The second is to take advantage of the explosive use of the internet, which many rural families use to facilitate their in-home education and communication.

I am asking for your financial support to expand our research library for parents and professionals.

  •   $25 will buy a parenting book for the resource library
  •   $50 will buy an audiotape for the lending library
  • $100 will buy one parenting videotape for the lending library
  • $250 will buy 16 handbooks for families attending parenting classes
  • $500 will help support our new web site for positive parenting & prevention

By responding to the changing lifestyles of our families, we will continue to focus on our communities' strengths and assets through capacity building and cooperation, thereby providing greater support for our families. Our focus is entirely on prevention, enlisting the active participation of the parents to effect positive outcomes. Thank you for your commitment to our community. Candy Eaton
